Research Facilities

The Keck Facility at the Josephine Bay Paul Center (JBPC) is equipped for “Next-Gen” sequencing. We currently operate an Illumina MiSeq, capable of 2 x 300 nt reads (~20M clusters), and an Illumina NextSeq, capable of 2 x 150 nt reads (130-400M clusters).

The Marine Resources Center is a highly advanced facility for maintaining, culturing, and providing aquatic organisms essential to advanced biological, biomedical, and ecological research.

The Cephalopod Breeding Program – At the С����Ƶ scientists are embarking on a groundbreaking new effort to culture cephalopods in the laboratory with the goal of creating a new genetic model system.

�ճ���������پ��DzԲ������ݱ�ԴDZ�ܲ���Resource (NXR) is located at С����Ƶ (С����Ƶ) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and serves as a national stock center for X. laevis and X. tropicalis as well as a training center for advanced technologies (e.g. husbandry, cell biology, imaging, genetics, transgenesis, genomics).

�ճ����Stable Isotope Laboratory provides stable isotope services for research and industry. The lab utilizes both Dual- Inlet and Continuous-Flow Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer systems for the measurement of δ15N, δ13C, δ18O, δ34S and δ2H on various types of samples.

The Central Microscopy Facility provide year round and summer investigators as well as courses with access to imaging instrumentation and computer processing and analysis.

Zebrafish Facility – Policies regarding protocols for zebrafish use

The Microbiome Center - Now part of The Microbiome Center of the University of Chicago, С����Ƶ, and Argonne National Laboratory, researchers at С����Ƶ participate in a variety of microbiome studies, exploring the fundamental principles that underlie the function of microbial systems in and with their environment.

Research Services

Aquatic Animal Supply – The Marine Resources Department (MRD) collects, maintains, and distributes, for educational and scientific purposes, approximately 200 locally available aquatic plant and animal species.

The Veterinary Services Department of the С����Ƶ is responsible for the health of both aquatic and terrestrial species of animals held at the С����Ƶ. We provide animal information, routine veterinary care and respond to animal health problems throughout the С����Ƶ.

Animal Order Forms – required for all applications; initial or renewal

The Laboratory Operations Department provides a wide variety of scientific equipment including microscopes and accessories, oscilloscopes, microfuges, power supplies, baths, shakers, incubators, and ovens. The Laboratory Operations Department also has electronic components available such as transistors, resistors, capacitors, ICs, and connectors.

The General Use Equipment Rooms supply year-round and summer investigators with instrumentation. These rooms provide such equipment as balances, pH meters, centrifuges, cell disruption systems, spectrophotometers, gel scanner and analysis system, pipet puller, and PCR. Limited -80°C freezer space is available.

Chemical Stockroom – The С����Ƶ stockroom, located in the basement of the Lillie Building, operates as a self-service facility providing the most essential laboratory supplies and chemicals.
